before i have plenty of hamsters too.. my friend told me to separate the parents from their young ones..because it is natural for them to fight, kill each other and might eat their babies too..

No. Hamsters are not meant to kill their own babies... that is, unless the owner did what my brother did with his... I'll make a long story short... my brother had two hamsters, a boy and a girl. They had babies, and my brother kept them together, therefore meaning that the babies ended up with mutated arms and legs, such as having two front paws, but only one back paw and one ear... My advice is you should have taken the dad out of the cage for a while (probably until the babies would have been maybe 4 months old), and then put him back in a few months later.

My dwarf hamster Tino got Navida pregnant so I had to separate them before the babies were born.When the babies were born I waited two months before see the dad. When Tino saw the babies he attack them I had to separate them before he eats them.They never got along even til this day.So I think that was normal because in the wild this what happens.Sorry about your hamsters.

Why is the father still in the cage? The mom can get preg within 24 hours after giving birth! Back to back litters can kill or shorten life spans! Are you sure the male killed them? Because the added stress of him trying to mate and caring for a new litter can cause a mom to kill off her off spring. Take the male out now and when the pup's are weaned take the boys out and prepard for another litter!

When the female hamster gets pregnant you should always separate them. I know that the mother will eat her babies if she thinks you will hurt them. Maybe he thought he was protecting them. Next time be more care full. I am sorry about the 2 baby hamsters. If you hadn't already separate the dad hamster from the babies.

Male hamsters will kill their young. Simple as. The only rodent I have been able to let the dad socialize with babies have been rats.

Hamsterlover- Inbreeding among rodents is fine, professional breeders do it to keep a line or get certain colours. So don't be so silly, mutated hamsters.Ha ha
