My siberian hamster is dead But it had Three Babies2007-11-24 22:13:01

My siberian dwarf hamster gave birth to three babies, but after 9-days i found it dead while doing breast feeding . I can`t leave its babies alone. I need something to feed those babies quick! Before I can found it dead with the other babies just lying along the cage.

you can use kitten replacement formula - one brand "KMR" is good for hamsters. they need to be fed a few drops from an eyedropper EVERY HOUR - this includes during the night. good luck!!

the best thing to do is find a surrogate mother. this is a hamster mother who has just given birth herself who can let the babies feed from her. ask a petshop perhaps.

I would go to the store where you bought her to see if there is a nursing mother available. You might have to buy her AND all of her babies, but that would probably be the best chance for survival for your babies!

KMR - Kitten Milk Replacer - can be used for orphaned hamsters. I don't know how often they need fed, but even kittens need fed every 2 hours. Hamsters are smaller, so I would guess more often. You can buy it at Walmart or Petco.

I'd give them water out of an eye dropper quickly, to make sure they don't dehydrate while you search for the KMR.

That is the first story about a hamster that has brought tears to my eyes since my hamster (Hammy) dropped dead as he ran in circles in a bushel basket.

go and get some rodent formula or kitten formula if you can't find the rodent kind and an eye dropper. feed them every couple of hours. after a week or so start introducing them to solid foods.

Awww. that's so sad i would take the babies and buy a female that just had babies or put your babies in the pet store or something i would do it FAST cause the babies could die in 24 hours.. :(
