There are better things to use. I agree with one of the above posters, Yesterday's news is great. Don't use cedar shavings because they produce way too much dust and can make your ham sick.

A little fluff in the cage is ok. They'll use it to make a nest.

Yeah, my hamster hurt his paw on the bedding once. The soft fluff is better.

It is your choice on what to use, you have to remember that the cages has to be cleaned and it is easier to clean a cage when the bedding is aspen chips, not fluff, fluff will bunch when wet and cause a bigger odor, contact your local pet store and ask them what they think your sister should use. My sister uses a product called Yesterdays News, but then she has rats.

Are you talking about Carefresh or something like Bed Fluff? Carefresh is good bedding, it's what I use for my hamster and its a good week before I can smell anything. If your using Bed Fluff for the entire cage then you might want to change it, Bed Fluff should just be given to the hamster so it can nest. (My hamster loves it and its fun to watch him make a bed using fluff)

i wouldnt use the fluff all over, ive read of hamster ingesting too ,uch and dying becvause people did that. i recommend carefresh bedding, do not use pine or ceder as it can cause lung illness. Yesterdays News, is also great, but very expensive.for a small hamster cage, i would use the white carefresh, or one of the colors,they are softer and absorb smell better than the regular grey CareFresh. Is it fluff as cotton fluff? Those aren't good for hamsters. The hamster could eat it and he/she could choke on it and die. Those aren't safe. I recommend CareFresh. It is a very good bedding.
