My sisters hampster is really sick or something, what can we do2007-11-24 22:13:04

She found him in its cage and he was non-responsive and very lazy like, he would hardly move, and to move just the smallest bit was very difficult for him. He was very cold, and we put him under some warm blankets to keep him warm, but he hasn't improved much. This was about 5 hours ago, and we have been keeping a close watch on him, he was blowing bubbles out his nose just a minute ago. It was a light white mucus. He just sits there with his eyes open, trying to move.

Please take this seriously, I have tried to ask questions like this in the past and no one responded seriously.

Yes, we already called the vet, there is nothing they can do right now until another hour or so. We called all the vets around, and there is only one that can work on a hampster.

He was making tiny choking sounds earlier aswell. Could this be a type of organ failure? My sister is REALLY broken up right now and doesn't understand what is happening, so please try to help.

Oh my gosh I'm so sorry. Don't worry I'm a vet. Well does he have fresh cold water? Did any thing fall in it by chance if so, it could of hurt his insides. Same thing with the food. Is it fresh and did something fall into it? Yes, keep it warm and get a eye dropper that has been cleaned very good and suck the mucus out of his nose. Look at his eyes how are they. If red he might have organ failure. Is his legs stiff or wobbly? If stiff that's a good sign. If wobbly, he might really be really sick. E-mail me at bonitachica1996@Gmail.com so I can tell you more. And tell your sister I am so sorry, and God Bless her.

I don't think there's much you should do. Just keep him warm and leave him alone- stress can make sickness worse in small animals.
i am afraid this little guy has pnuemonia and wont make it becuase he is so very weak. it is best to let him go to hammy heaven.
It could have been a number of things, Is the cage infront of a window or a drafty area? Maybe he has been climbing on somthing and droped and injuried his self, Has your sister droped him by accident? The only thing i think you can do is just wait another hour for the vet, Good luck with him.
Put a heating pad under his cage. I wouldn't feed him much as it may block something up and cause him to not breathe at all. Keep giving him warm water and moniter him until the vet is available. Do not leave him for one second as you could miss something vital. Good luck and wishing you the best.
