My sons hamster (15 years) goopy eyes and wet tail2007-11-24 22:13:06

About two weeks ago we noticed the wet tail and treated it for 6 days with Dri tail, still wet though I have noticed regular droppings in the cage. Today I noticed her eyes are both kind of runny and not completely open. Anyone have any suggestions of how I can help her?

Sounds like a cold with diarrhea. I went to a specialty pet store and they gave me some kind of remedy for it when I had a hamster years ago. Don't give it any fresh veggies or anything either.

Chances aren't that good for him, but give it a shot. If you take him to the vet, it will be way more expensive than the cost of the animal. If you really love and care about him and don't care about the money, then take him to the vet. Maybe they can prolong his life a little longer, but being that he is already 1 1/2, his number might be up.

the same thing happened to our hamster. we were giving her medication but it didn't work. eventually, she died a few days later. if you want to try to save her, take her to the vet, but it is a lot more expensive than just buying a new hamster.

YES, TAKE HER TO THE VET!!

You've dinked around long enough. Your pet has a RIGHT BY LAW to receive proper medical care. This is more than 'wet tail.' And she is suffering. So do the right thing.

I'm sorry, but i think your hamster is going to die. Hamsters only live for about 2 years. Did you happen to feed it any cabbage or lettuce or anything else of that sort lately? If so that could be causing it... My hamster died from the same symptems.

Have you tried putting oats/oatmeal in the hamsters food. That will actually keep the little guy from getting wet tail. As for the eyes, it could be a respiratory infection or something like that. For that you may have to see a vet. Good luck.
