My son has another hamster called sindy and she has just started using her bedding in a really wierd way, she has built it up really high against the side of her cage, she is also 8 months and is not pregnant as she has her own cage too. Why is this?

There are a few possible reasons for this. Firstly hamster can be a bit like cats in the sense that you buy them a great house... and they make thier own just to spite you *grins*. Is the hamster cage in a draughty place? This could explain why she builds the bedding up against the wall, she's could be making her own windbreak. Or just as likely it could be boredom and she is just passing the time.

I'd suggest that unless her health deteriorates or she makes a huge mess- just let her get on with it! Someimes a hamster doen't need a reason :P

cause she wants too. my hamster pushes his shavings all to one side and leaves the other side bare!

Some small pets like 2 hav 1 of those igloo things in their cages so they will dump over their bed and try 2 go under it.

You will go crazy trying to sort out why a hamster does stuff.

She likes what she has done with the bedding, she may be too warm and is just getting it out of her way, she may be building a nest.

Keep a close watch on her to see if she sleeps on the pile .

My sons hamster does the same, its got a small house that it totally ignores , instead it builds a big mound of bedding and disappears into it to sleep for the day.

Well my hamster does that to when he is cold or just doesn't want to be seen. He feels more secure that way! It is normal so i wouldn't worry!

I hope you dont use that cotton bedding they sell,as its DANGEROUS and could kill your hamster,the safest bedding to use is toliet paper.Join hamster forums and ask questions to other hamster owners and learn new things,and share pictures of each others hammies's.:-)

Its normal. My hamster use to do things like that all the time. may I suggest that you use special hamster bedding, due to the chemicals that are used to produce toilet role. The chimicals could be toxic to the hamster
