My two male rats are fighting What do I do
My two males have been fighting since they were about 1 month old. They are about 3 months old now and the fighting is getting worse. I have a pretty big cage for them so i don't see and problem with that. I give alot of attention and even let them run around in the grass outside a bit. Is this fighting just playing or is it a real fight out of domiance or something? I have no females and I'm pretty sure that they haven't been around females for most of their life. When they do fight there is a lot of loud sqeeking mostly in the middle of the night. (I guess they are noctournal)
Answers:nope not nocturnal
crepuscular
most active at dawn and dusk til late evening
dont listen to ANYONE saying you cannot keep two males together it is a load of claptrap [looks over at 11 all squished into one hammock ; -) ]
rats are not hamsters nor mice[ and its only non related male mice that shouldnt be kept together and thats only a generalisation ]
it doesnt matter what their colour is or whether theyre naked, top eared, dumbo, rex, patchwork whatever
male rats can AND should be kept together
theres a huge golden rule to remember
no blood no foul
loud squeaking is par for the course, male rats like all males are all puff and stuff yet rarely draw blood. lots of pinning, pushing, shoving, squeaking and bum barging but very few cuts or grazes
they are more than likely, at their age, trying out for dominanace and being equal neither one is backing down quickly, mind you i have an excelllent alpha and beta and my 11 still play fight all over the cage, imagine what that sounds like
