Nervous about clipping my hamsters nails
My hamsters nails are pretty long. One even looks like it is about to come off. I'm also nerveous about clipping his nails too short. Is there another way to cut his nails without a nail clipper?
Answers:If you're still concerned if he hasn't filed them down by himself, I would suggest going to your local vet office and ask them to do it for you. They have all of the supplies needed, clippers and quick stop. Chances are he's not going to like having this done, so it might be easier having someone else who's experienced do it.
they sell small animal nail filers ;]
Well, I have 2 female dwarf hamsters. There nails got being pretty long. The next week, I noticed that they were short! I think that the hamsters either chew them off, or they some how sharpen them. Sorry that I don't really know how to cut hamster nails, but, I am just trying to explain to you what I have expeirenced before! I hope that this helps! Good Luck!
What I have heard is placing a brick in its cage for it to grind its nails down. If you don't have a brick, use some nail files and file them down. Good Luck!
cut a tiny branch off of a tree and put it in the cage. He/she can file them down by his/herself. Your hamster should know what to do with it! Hope that helps!
Save yourself the money to the vet, and the stress to the hamster. If your hamster is not biting his nails down or wearing them down naturally, put a brick in the cage.
A brick will grind down the nails as the hamster climbs on it to investigate and whatnot. For quicker results, put the food bowl or treats on the brick to encourage brick climbing. If you have a dwarf hamster, you may want to put some sort of stairway to help him get up to the top of the brick.
Just be sure there is no way the hamster can get under the brick to where he can get squished!
look for the red, it is a blood vain, cut away from that. a nail clippers are best for small hamsters, you can also try maicure scissors.
