Nervous hammies(robo)
All three of my robos are really timid and I really wanna train them to let me carry them and I once saw a video that someone could, so I was thinking if anyone would teach me how?
Answers:Just spending time with them and playing with them will let them learn to trust you and eventually they will let you carry them. Robos, being rodents, are at the bottom of the food chain, so when something big and unfamilier comes and scoops them up, they tend to get pretty frightened.
Try playing with them for twenty to thirty minutes a day (later in the evening is best, when they are more active). This way, they will get used to being handled. You can also try giving them little treats out of your hand so they learn to associate your with food.
If you need to ask a question about handling robos, you are not at all prepared to deal with robo babies. Please do not breed your hamsters. Enjoy the ones you have while you have them.
Being able to carry Robos around and have them allow it is an exception, not the rule.
As a rule, Robos are high strung and flighty, and difficult to handle. They are a "look, but don't touch" type of pet.
You can try the above taming technique (which usually works on most species of hamsters) but don't be disappointed or surprised if it doesn't seem to get you results. They just aren't that kind of animal.
If you want a hamster you can carry around with you, I'd suggest getting a Campbell's dwarf or a Syrian. They are much more tame.
i read that you can go into a bathtub so that they can't escape and play with them so that they can get used to you. it might work.
I have 2 male Robos. 1 is much more timid than the other. I knew buying them that they were not your typical handling hamster. I have yet to try the bathtub method, going to give that a shot this weekend. when i feed them I hold 1 sunflower seed in my hand and they have gotten used to coming up to my hand and comfortably take it from me. I have the critter trail set up and handle them every 2 weeks to break the whole set up down. After almost 1 year they are still timid with me reaching in to get them but that also has gotten better. http://www.surfntheweb.com/robohammies.h...
Good luck with traing , let us know how it works out. :)
get a syrian hamster if you want one you can handle, the others are too uptight and nervous. plus syrians live alone, you will only need one. and get an exercise ball for them to run in on the floor.
