Ok i have had my hamster for 4 days and when i got to pick her up she nibbles very small bites only one drew blood, but im wondering why? is she scared? not use to me? just a biter?

and one more question..

You know how hamsters have to get use to your smell? well what other ways.. other then picking her up can you tame her and make her get use to my smell? petting her maybe?

Answers:

If she doesn't bite hard, that means she is just curious. It's her way of sniffing your hand...Because if she was mad or scared, she would bite a lot harder, or agressively. My hamster likes to nibble my feet...LOL

You can try to rub your hands on your hamster's beddings/shavings so she can get used to your smell...They also say at the pet's shop that you should wait at least one week before touching your hamster, so that she can get used to her new cage, otherwise, she might get too stressed and die...

After that, you can try to put a treat in your hand. A baby carrot would do just fine, as long as it's washed properly and is not too cold...

Maybe your hamster is biting you because her teeth are growing...Did you know that throughout a hamster's life, their teeth never stop growing ? Maybe you should try getting her some wood chews. You can get some at PJ's pet shop, and they're really good for your hammie's teeth...

before getting a hamster talk to it get it used to your voice, little by little, you put food on your hand and let the hamster eat it off your hand, then later pick the hamster up and make birdges with your hand so that the hamster can still keep walking. it takes like 1-2 months to tame your hamster and get it used to u
Put a shirt next to her cage or partially over the top. Also sit still and place your hand inside the cage with out making a move to pet her. This should help. Hope she stops.
I wonder why it's always the female hamsters that are mean? LOL! I had a couple of them when I was little. I'll never forget the meanest one. She was also the prettiest one I had though; she had long hair and was brown and white. Just like the others said; it does take a couple of months for them to get used to you. I had to wear gloves whenever I had to pick her up but soon she got used to me, but the only problem was that she would only let me pick her up and nobody else!
I also have a hamster. At first, I wasn't sure why either. But I heard that they don't bite a lot,but if it's upset or smells food on your hands , it may bite. But try not to yell at it,they don't like it. Also, when i have blood on my hand,my hamster will lick it off and even nibble.Oh yeah, their teeth grow all their life so make sure it has something to nibble on,lie chew sticks at the pet store. Try holding your hamster a lot . I do and mine is friendly with people. Good luck!
well when she nips you tap her on her nose and she should learn in a bit thats how i trained mine
wash your hands first, and let her run on your bed, give her sunflower seeds, get her an exercise ball to run in on the floor. also I have 3 female syrians and they are as sweet as can be.
hamster have to get to know you first. use a coffe mug to pick her up in until she gets used to you. offer her treats like peanuts, but nothing small cuz she might bite you on accident.
Yes she's terrified of you, put yourself in her place for a moment..new home, strange voices, and OMG who's this LARGE (that's what you look like to her) thing standing there?

I have 3 hamsters, and the only one that's taking longer than 2 or 3 days to tame is the Black Syrian Hamster, whom I'm convinced HATES me and LOVES my husband. Petting her can be and effective way to get her used to you. Putting your hand in her cage and letting her smell you is another. And just handling her everyday for 10 to 30 minutes.

Good Luck
