New Pet Mouse

New Pet Mouse2007-11-24 22:13:12

I just got a new pet mouse (saved him from being snake food. go me!) & now I need advice on how to make his life more interesting.

I've bought him a cage, a wheel, a ball to crawl around on the floor in, a swiss cheese wood block with 2 holes to crawl in, a little house to sleep in, & a "litter box" that he obviously doesn't understand the concept of (lol)

I bought him mouse food which he seems to be picking through to get the pieces he likes, & "Yogies" yogurt treats which he doesn't seem to like thus far. I've been feeding him the mouse food combined w\ a few croutons here & there & some cheerios..&small bits of broccoli...

Am I doing okay so far? Any other suggestions for things he might enjoy? How often should I be handling him? Is it possible to handle him too much? How do I get him to stop peeing on me, lol? Any other yummy treat suggestions? Anything I should know NOT to do\NOT fo feed him?

As a first time mouse mommy, any advice is much welcomed!

Thanks in advance

Yay! I'm so happy you rescued a little mouse. I have 2 rescued mice (one from snake food, and one from a shelter) along with a fancy mouse and 7 rats. It sounds like you are doing great so far.

First of all, I know one of the other people who answered said to get rid of the wheel. You do NOT want to get rid of the wheel. Mice need lots of excersize and just climbing around their cage is not enough. If you are worried about your mouse getting his leg caught in the wheel, get a plastic wheel. They are completely solid and you dont have to worry about injuries.
