Now it seems we have a nest of big rats in the basement, how to get them out2007-11-24 22:13:13

i move to this backwoods property and it seems to be a damn zoo for rodents. i am losing it. i will blow them up or burn them out. whatevver it takes. but we are green people now. now poison. no poison.

Answers:

now you will have to break your notion about green power and all that. these rats will tear your house apart and bite you baby's face in the night. fill the basement with dcon rat pellet tins scattered behind this and that. keep you kids from there and explain the danger and show them. in a couple of weeks no more damn rats. i have been there.

Contact pest control, they will quickly deal with them.

Hardware stores have traps (live traps) the kill them ones work too. good luck they are hard to get rid of. they breed quickly and often.

sit and shoot em, feed them rice (uncooked) feed sugar beet (unsoaked) rice and the beet will swell up in their tummies and make them explode .

if they are in tunnels cement them in, get a feral cat (plenty needing homes). If its a nest and there is nothing under them or around them that can catch fire, get a old metal barrel cut the top and bottom out, sit it over the nest and have a rat barbie.

None of these are nice ways and the bbq was my mates idea but if you not into poison and catching them and releasing them is out the question then one of the above may help.

Try getting some live traps. I had a live trap that caught three rats a night. Then we just took the rats out to a field and let them go. Also think, are the rats doing any harm in your basement?

Besides spreading diseases rats gnaw wiring and have been known to cause fires. First make sure to seal off all access points. An adult rat can get through an opening as small around as a quarter. Then get a bunch of rat zappers and follow the instructions closely.
