Ok, guinea pig ball=bad so how can i get exercise for my piggie

Ok, I didn't respond to your first question about the ball since you have this question posted.

Glad you know the balls are bad for piggies' backs. Likewise, the leashes. One accidental jerk from a leash & you've got a piggie with a damaged spine or neck. Please don't use those leashes with harnesses. The people that make them & the balls & then say they're safe for guinea pigs, are only in it for the money & could care less about your pet.

Now that that is out of the way! You can build your piggie a play area out of cheap cubes & secure them together with zip ties. See www.guineapigcages.com for some ideas. Personally, I use a plastic child's swimming pool with an old towel on the bottom (to keep feet from slipping). I then add two Quaker oats cylinders (ends cut out) and a few toilet paper rolls stuffed with hay. Sometimes I'll throw a ball of crumpled notebook paper in there too. The pigs love to run around the pool playing with their "toys". Other times, I just block the doorway to the kitchen (to keep them in a safe & pig-proofed area) & let 'em run! They have a ball exploring!

I think it should also be noted that some pigs are just genetically bigger than others (like people!) and aren't really "fat". They're just big piggies!

I also noted that you say "piggie" in your post, as in "singular". If you only have one pig, may I suggest adopting him/her a same-sex friend? That will go a very long way in keeping your buddy on his/her toes! Guinea pigs are herd animals & do best when housed as a pair. Check out www.petfinder.com for a shelter or rescue near you.
