Okay i think my hamsters pain will be eased if I got rid of her constipation What can I feed her2007-11-24 22:14:04

I feel she is in great pain (read my other questions) but I am trying to do evething I can to ake sure she feels better. I think there is a small, slight chance she could get ebtter. She has constipationw hich she has never hadbefoe &i have researched on the internet and it says that hamsters that have constipation sometimes walk round with a hunched back and constpation is caused by eating too much dry food (or pelllettss)), -- and not drinking enough water. my hamster (brownie) is not drinking at all. she has like 3-4 licks then stops. i've tried switching to spring water, she hates it. a would not touch it at all. i am now having her on Buxton water and she only has a few licks and she is too porly to drink. i think if she stops having constipation she will feel alot better and *maybe* make a almost full recovery. if nothing helps i am taking her to the vets tomorrow if she is not better. if there is absolutely nothing the Vet can do i will have her put down which i will regretalot

im really sorry to hear about that...no i wont say ur selfish, becuz ur not and you are going through alot right now.just give her regular water, or try it.. maybe the other stuff doesnt taste right to her with minerals and stuff.i am really sorry and i am sure that this problem can be solved just take her to the vet in the morning so he can help put things right.and you wont have to put her down

you should be feeding it what the vet told you, if he didnt you need to call him. you might make it worse if you give him something rong,

Carrots contain water, or any other veggie so she'll get her water from that source, have you tried swaddling her in a warm towel? or try applying moist heat(hot water bottle, with warm water instead of hot water). Hope this helps and she feels better soon =)

You could try a dab of vaseline or cat hairball preventative (basically flavored vaseline) on her paw. This may stimulate a bowel movement. I have also heard a little mineral oil or cod liver oil works. You put it on the animal's paw because it won't tolerate the greasiness and will lick it off. Don't put it in the mouth- you could choke it.
