Omg i am freeking out rat experts plz or rat owners :O2007-11-24 22:14:06

i accidentily droped her and then i saw that one of her teeth was missing and the other 1 was missing what do i do !?? i am really scared !! i ground her food up into a paist just incase she cant chew and she seemes to like it she doesnt seem to be in any pain so i am not shute if i should bring her to a vet or if they will just grow back eventualy ? helppppppppp!!!

First off. take a deep breath and relax!! :)

If your rat doesn't appear to be otherwise hurt, don't worry! Rats are rodents and like all rodents, their teeth are constantly growing. That's why you see the "chew toys" for rats, mice, hamsters, gerbils, ect in every pet store. The chew toys are to help them keep their teeth trimmed naturally (by chewing) so they don't over grow.

Your rat's teeth will grow back in no time! Give it a few days and you'll probably see them starting to grow. :) Crushing the food is a good idea. You could also try softening a bit of bread in a small bowl of warm (NOT hot) goats milk. Your rat will enjoy that as a treat and it will give him a bit more calcium to help regrow his teeth.

Ah, that happened to my guinea pig when he was young too. He would try to terrorize my dog (he was a rotten little bugger!) And he jumped out of my hands just as I went to pick him up. and he broken his teeth out. They grew back in about four weeks, as all rodent teeth are continually growing. Just make sure that the other teeth don't get too long as the others grow back, since they grind them to keep them the proper length.

I dont have a rat, but I have a hamster, and he has broken off his two bottom teeth before. I was just like you, in a total panic. But he carried on eating and drinking like nothing had happened.
