I will most likely get the black bear. Also, the ones that they have at the store, are females. I also don't know how old they are, but I can always ask. But, would it be ok, if I got one that wasn't a baby. If I got one that was a little older would it hurt any to start getting him used to me then? Thanx.

Out of all the hamsters, black bears live the longest. There ave life span is much closer to 3 years as where the rest of the hamster family is much closer to 2 years. I read about it in a "rodent" magazine I saw at petsmart. They said that a reason for this has not been found. There is nothing wrong with getting an older hammy just remember that the older they are the less time you will be able to spend with them before it is there time to go. As far as getting used to you, there wont be any big difference because of the age, if your hammy is too nippy at first just use some leather gardening gloves until your hammy gets use to being handled. Also keep in mind that it is said that males are usually less nippy and more tame then females.

If you wanted a black bear.they live(I believe) to be, at the most, 2 years old. If you get them too old they won't like the adjustment and will bite. If you get them more along the lines of baby and 4 months then they would probably adjust just fine. Hope you find the perfect one!

It should be ok. Have you checked any local shelters for hamsters? They get dropped off all the time. I got mine from the local APL.

not all the hamsters at pet stores are babies so you could end up getting an older one. it wouldn't hurt to get an older one cause it will get used to you just the same as a younger hamster.

They are supposed to only leave them up for sale if they are less than 4 months old. Which is not a bad age to get them at. They will be no less than 6 weeks old at a pet store ( you dont want to get one any younger than that anyway )
