Why only pet store owners? Don't you think other people with experience would know about these animals too?

I have had both, and I like them equally, I guess it just depends on your personality.

Rats are cleaner, take up less space, and are more intelligent than guinea pigs. They are also very affectionate, but guinea pigs are that as well.

Guinea pigs take up lots of space; they MUST have at least 7 square feet of cage space. Do not buy one of those horrible small cages you find at pet stores.

With both animals you must spend at least an hour with them daily to ensure that they are socialized and friendly. Both animals are a commitment; with rats it is a 2/12 year to about 3 year commitment, with pigs it is a 3-8 year commitment.

There are many factors in deciding which pet you'd rather have. Either way please get two of whichever animal you'd like to get, same-sex.

rats since they are nicer, and guinea pigs because they are sometimes cuter and more people chose the piggy.
