Our hamster got out of her cage and we found her 5 days later under the stairs
she is drinking water ,but not eating much food ,any ideas ?? will she be ok ,our children are worried !
Answers:She's probably found lots to nibble on while she was gone. Wiring, particularly! We had a hamster who disappeared a couple of times. As a result, we had to have our phone line replaced!
We used to build elaborate ways to entice him back into his cage in a one-way system, and filled his cage with all sorts of lovely things, and it usually worked, within a day or two he'd be back, safe and sound. I'd say she'll start eating tonight, when all's quiet and she's settled in again.
Never seemed to harm our guy - he lived for four years. I'm sure she'll be fine tomorrow.
She is proboly in shock still. Give her time and she should be fine. Dont forget veggies are good for them. Make sure you fix the part of the cage that she busted out of now.
take her 2 the vet thats all i can say.
She may settle down, but they don't tend to live long anyway. There is no way of knowing if she will be ok. Be prepared for the worst and think what you can say to the kids. It is also a lesson in life for children that we all have to die sooner or later (I know this sounds bad).
If she does die, I recommend Guinea pigs for life span. We have 2 and they seem to go on for ever that the kids dont care anymore, I do all the caring!
probably just a bit tired and stressed. the main thing is that she's drinking water. try tempting her with some treats - like a bit of carrot or apple. also, my hamster loves the occasional sugar puff or cheerio as a treat. if she's still not eating in a couple of days, take her to the vets.
