Overweight guinea-pig2007-11-24 22:13:26

my guinea pig is really fat, hes really tame and content but hes become overweight. we give him fresh vegetables and some of that cereal everyday and i dont know why hes become so big. is there anything i can do, because i want him to live longer.

Answers:

The best way to solve this problem is to have a beer.

Don't give him too many vegetables. It makes them gain weight quicker. Make him eat guinea pig food.
are you sure that it is definitely a boy?
give him less vegetables and see how that goes. If you're really concerned, talk to your vet about a diet for him.
if you are not positive of the gender and you acquired it within the past 1-3 months it may be a pregnant female.

feed timothy hay because alfalfa is meant for developing pigs or pigs who need to gain weight. too much alfalfa can cause bloating.

veggies are good but not too much. not too much fruit because the acid can hurt the lining of their mouth after awhile.

cereal is not a good food for gpigs. use guinea pig pellets without nuts, seeds, of added color.

take him out to play because it could also be a lack of exercise. it is recommended that a guinea pig is out of its cage at least an hour a day.

guinea pigs live 5-8 years, but once in a while until they are 9.

hoped that helped.

Actually, I wouldn't cut down on the veggies because the pig gets most of its vitamins and minerals from them. I WOULD cut down on the pellets (I assume this is what you mean by 'cereal').
