PLEASE HELP GERBIL INVASION THIS IS NOT A JOKE ok so a month ago I rented an apartment to an old lad
ended up letting tons of gerbils out loose in her apartment she litterally lives in a giant gerbil house the floors are covered in the wood chips and all its seriously creepy. Anyways I disovered this because this morning I went to show an aprtment and went running out screaming (not fear just shock) as there was tons of them running around. The exterminators cant come till monday. What do I do its a 150 apartment - 11 floor highrise if the other tenants find out theyll freak, are they dangerous? can i do something in the mean time? PLEASE HELP THIS IS SOMETHING OUT OF A HORROR MOVIE BUT IM DEADLY SERIOUS. Also due to laws here i cant evict her for at least 3 months what the hell do I do?
Answers:Have you spoken to an attorney about that? She has created a hazzard in your building gerbils while they are not dangerous do chew wires get into walls and can cause serious problems even a fire. My first suggestion is call the SPCA and send them to her door. Those kind of living conditions are not suitable for any tenant or pet. Second there is something not mentally stable about someone that would live in woodchips...You as a landlord will have an easier time having this woman checked into a psych facility than even her own family could..Call your local office for the aging and find out if they have a psych social worker in your county that will make a visit to your tenant...my family had to do this to one of ours that ran down the halls naked screaming the devil was after him they had him hauled off after the first meeting. The SPCA will know better what to do about your problem and will be out immediatly not monday. You may have to get the police involved too unfortunatly but you also have other tenants to be concerned about. The police can make an assessment as to her mental state and call in an ambulance to have her taken to be checked out which gives you time to clean up the problems around the building.
I don't think you should kill the gerbils. Just tell the old lady that she needs to put them all in a proper cage, or else she will be evicted. Tell, her she has a certain amount of days, and when you come back that day, there better not be a gerbil in site on the ground. I don't know if it's legal to kill someone's pet in their own apartment.
