PLEASE help me with rats2007-11-24 22:14:35

Alright im like freaking out now because my dad thinks rats are diseased pests. And my sister says noone owns rats as pets. And I said thats why they sell them at the pet store...and shes like yeah to feed snakes. Shes 22, but she thinks she knows everything. I cant convince my parents to stop thinking so bad about rats!! I used to think rats were pests too until I read most of your guys' stories about how nice they are. I even showed them you guys' posts. They said, well theres atleast one person that will own anything as pets. EVEN THOUGH I KNOW THAT A LOT OF YOU GUYS OWN RATS! This is really making me mad because they are thinking of rats you find in alley ways. And I already printed a fact sheet, showed them EVERYTHING. I really need help convincing them! PLEASE help!

OMG, my husband and I have 3 rats. They are the smartest and most loving animals I have ever had! All three of them respond to their names. I can be sitting on the couch and call one of mine and she comes running to me! I wanted a pet to keep me company because my husband is a firfighter and is gone alot & my rats are perfect! And they are very clean! Rats make AWESOME pets!!

I've just added 2 rats to my family. There excellent, but I will say my mum's reaction when I told her I got 2 rats was . well let's just say we are no longer on speaking terms :) (btw I'm 31 and have not even lived with my parents since I was 17 lol) According to her, having 2 dogs, a rabbit and 2 rats makes my house un-liveable for a child (I have a 9 yr old) *shrugs*

I have own rats in the past. They our very intelligent creatures. My rats would give them self bathes all the time, just like cats. They are a good pet to start with, since they only live a couple of years. I would recommend them for the first time pet owner. Your parents will probably not like them, no matter what proof you show them. It is ingrain in the human race to dislike anything different then the norm. Good look with the rats.

Our pet rat Edgar is the first pet I've owned that I didn't feel at all guilty for keeping as a pet.
