my son had a panda bear hamster. it doesn't get very big at all. we had it for about 3 yrs. they are really sweet the one that he had would run around under the bed covers playing hide and seek. i don't know what size the one is that you saw at the store but his grew to be a nice fit in the tubes that you can purchase for them to play in. also we had a potty attachment and he used that and that really t helped with the maintenance of the cage. hope this helps some.

Panda bear hamster is a cutesy name pet store owners use for black banded syrian hamsters, so they can sell more hamsters for more money. All hamsters are loving and sweet.

Syrians will only get a couple of inches long, but they MUST be caged ALONE.

Campbell dwarf and Winter White hamsters are even smaller, and can be housed together if they are the same sex.

If your thinking of getting a hamster, buy one from a breeder. Pet store hamsters are often sick when you buy them.

If you do buy one from a pet store, remember that they are trying to sell you stuff. Don't buy a pet store cage, a large rubber maid tub with holes punched for ventilation makes a much larger cage, and they're easier to clean. Don't buy pet store treats, fruits and veggies are much better for your hamster. Also, beware of pine, cedar, and fluff bedding.

hamsters need time to get used to their new sourdings when you first get any small animal give them time to get used to you do not play or try to take him out of his cage. In doing so you could stress them out and they could get wet tail and die which is direah in small animals. All hamsters need to be socialized, always make sure your hands are clean if you smell like food you will get bitten! Put yourself in their position your in your new home chillin when a big hand comes out of nowehere your going to be scared! and may bite. I suggest to slowly pickig them up and hand feeding them a treat. Treat good so you giving them treat they will start to say oh that person is not so bad after all. Hamsters are not that social so do not put them in a cage with other hamsters. They are in cages at pet store because they are not in that cage long and they are young when they get older they get taratorial. I suggest the kaytee rodent and hamster blocks for food its compressed hamster mix in a block form which gives them everything that they need in one block, plus its hard so it feeds the need to knaw. They also like timmothy hay to eat and nestel into. It helps in the aid of digestion as well as ben bac which is also found in the small animal islee. Messure the correct amouint for you pet and put it ontop of a baby carrot or cabbage. Get a stantard wire cage for hamsters the plastic cages with all the toubs are nothing but trouble. I once had a customer whos hamster knawed a hole and escaped. care fresh bedding is the best clean the cage once a week with a mild soap filtred water is best hopes this helps
hamsters are very small, they usually don't get much bigger than....probably the palm of your hand. in my experience hamsters aren't very friendly or sweet either. however i've heard of very nice hamsters, but mine sure weren't. also, hamsters are solitary so its really NOT a good idea to put them with another hamster.
dont get a pet just because you think its cute, thats called impulss buying, and it is very mean to the pet
