Persuasion about rats
i live with my grandma and i want a rat but she not does want one how do i pursuede her to let me get one.and if i do get one wat is the best 2 story cage on petsmart.com
Answers:Just for the record, make sure you get two of the same sex. Rats are extremely social animals and they need another rat to be around. In fact one of mine is old and is loosing mobility and the younger ones snuggle her and lay on her to protect her. So, they really need to have friends. I mean they love us, but they need rat friends.
Ok, make sure you do some research on rats.
1st tell her that you will keep them in your room so she doesn't have to look at them. Some people are actually disgusted by rats. I don't get it because I think they are cute as all hell, but, anyways.Let her know the benifits of rats.
1. Cheap food.
2. Don't bite like other small rodents.
3. Smarter.
4. Are more social towards humans whereas a hamster and stuff really aren't.
What you could do also, is ask another yahoo question for testimonials on how great rats are. All of us who own rats as pets can write our own great experiences and you can show that to her. Make her understand that this is a common practice.
Also, I do not know what your financial situation is, but maybe if you finance the whole thing. They are not entirely cheap and you must remember that problems do go wrong. I've had to have surgery on two of my rats for mammary tumors. Luckily I had pet insurance so it didn't put me back that much. However, I can tell you the surgeries can run from 200-300 dollars. The other thing you do need to know if there is an exotic vet near you. I happen to live near one of the best vets in the world with a top doctor. He was on emergency vets, but there are areas in this country where there is no exotic animal vets.
tell your grandma that they are really quiet compared to dogs and cats. and their pretty easy to take care of!
It depends on why your grandma doesn't want a rat. If she's scared or distrustful of them, but not terrified or phobic have a friend bring a rat to your house to show her. Go to the pet store and show her the cute rats. There are even rat shows that you could take her too. If that doesn't work consider starting with a mouse, hamster, or gerbil.
