Pet Rat Problem

Pet Rat Problem2007-11-24 22:14:10

EveryDay i go out and feed , water them so they won't starve, ETC.

When i went out there i sall that my Pregnant Rat Eye is buldgeing out of the Socket!!

like its going to pop or fall out, my dad said " oh well, its just a stupid rat, ".

And i aint going to take it to the vet because of what my dad told me and i wouldnt plan on spending alot of money on its Eye.

The rats never fight , the pregnant rat eats up all of the food.

And they are just fine.

but how could something like this happen?!!

Answers:

What you're describing about your rat's eyes sounds like either an infection like Glaucoma (treatable) or cataracts. Rats don't rely heavily on vision (so cataracts would probably not bother them so much) but infections and inflammation like Glaucoma can cause pain and sensitivity and should be treated with an antibiotic/steroid solution such as Gentocin Durafilm eyedrops or an ophthalmic ointment such as terramycin-- a vet would be better suited to choose the medication in this situation if one is needed. So please take your rat to the vet or it will die. And you will not only be killing the rat but also the little babies inside of her. So you say you keep them outside? That could cause your rats to get sick much easier. You should keep them inside. If you keep them outside because you think they smell I have a solution for you. Give them dry plain oatmeal each day and it will make them smell better. Also it is a natural healer so they wont get sick as easily. Good luck with your little cutie!

Well it sounds like your "stupid rat" needs to see the vet.
