Is it better to get a pet mouse from a pet store or a breeder? The pet store where I live sends them home too early, but it is fairly cheap and I can't seem to find a mouse breeder near my town or close to it. Help!!

breeder. 100% pet stores breed mice as food for snakes. they never play with them and they have manny diseses. breeders play with all thier mice and so when you get them they arent terrified

Rather get them from the breeder. Althouth they had initially come from pet stores, they're kept better.

Breeders would be better if it was for a dog because then you would know what shots it got and stuff. But for a mouse, i dont think i would really matter. I got 2 from the pet store

And your sure that there isn't anywhere else to get your pet mouse? Look on http://www.petfinder.com , your local newspaper, and animal shelters near you. You may be surprised at what you'll find.

For a pet with no particular want for a certain breed, pet store. Right now the world of hobby mouse breeding is coming up from an all time ethical low. Breeders breed big mice for show, and retire them at a few months. Often after retirement, the mice are killed to make room for new mice. Breeders have no interest in health or logevity because mice are retired from show so young. Many breeder's wouldn't even know if cancer ran in their show lines because their mice are culled or sold as pets so young that the tumors haven't shown up. Granted you have a 50/50 chance of getting a long-lived, healthy mouse either way.

Breeders are usually better. The mouse would be in better health and the breeder could tell you how to take care of it.

I'd get a rescue mouse. Pet store mice are bred for money making purposes and are killed or sold as feeder mice.
