If you have 2 gerbils and 1 dies how does the other cope , does it pine away? Will it die of loneliness?

What can you do ?

Answers:

it will miss the other one, but providing you provide it with a good environment, lots of interesting things to chew/hide in (try toilet roll inner tubes and small cardboard boxes), good food, a clean cage, and time out of the cage with you every day, it will be fine. Mine lived for YEARS after the other one died. the alternative is to get another one to join it, but you may find they fight.

buy another?
if u think its not doing well on its own buy another one and see how they get on
u are sounding like u want this to happen?
The gerbil who is left will miss the other gerbil, but most animals will get over it. you can buy another if you like. Animals are a lot better equiped to handle death than we are. We think too much into it. The animal thinks "oh, bummer, I'll miss him" and that's it! some animals are known to get depressed, like dogs, cats, and birds, but even they can usually pull out of it. good luck!
My nan had two gerbils, mother and daughter. Shortly after losing the mother, she did lose the daughter too.

I think if they spend their life with a companion, and their companion suddenly dissapears, they may feel alone and unprotected. Don't ever try and replace the one you've lost to keep the other living life companion company, it wont work.

Why don't you buy another gerbil?
