Pet mouse+makes really weird noises whenever I enter room2007-11-24 22:14:09

I have two pet mice but only one of them makes this really weird clicking sort of noise whenever I enter the room or whenever she notices me in the room. It's a constant noise that she keeps making until I leave the room she even keeps doing it when it when I bring her out of her cage normally if I stay in the room for more then about 10 minutes she starts getting softer. My other mouse is quite fine. Any suggestions on why she makes these weird noises?

Answers:

It sounds as if your mouse is afraid and is grinding its teeth aganst each other. This is done to try and intimidate you and make you think that it is a big vicious rodent. You do not say whether it is a male or a female, but I have noticed that the males do it more often than the females. I think that is possibly a defence mechanism saying "stay away from my girlfriend", but I am not certain.

You could try putting the cage in a place where it is not too exposed and is above your eyeline. This will reduce the threat that the mouse feels.

I hope this helps.

nervous/wants your attention. i had a pet rat, who would grab the cage and rattle it, every time I came in the room, because she wanted me to pick her up. Spoiled baby!
I use to have gerbils whenever I was little and they would sometimes make a clicking noise whenever they were scared. Your mouse sounds like it is just not use to be around people since you said it happens whenever you enter the room. Maybe you should try bringing food or treats whenever you enter. That way the mouse would become accustomed to you and not see you as a threat.
She is nervous. Talk to a vet who can make sure!
I suggest you take her to a vet. Some mice are just more talkative (squeakative?) than others; while these noises in other mice could be a sign of infection. Only your vet can tell you for sure.
I had a mouse who was clicking (it wasn't a constant though) and she ended up being really sick. She might be sick.
sounds like your mouse is scared - if i were you i would handle this one more and give it treats so it knows you arent a threat and it will hopefully start to trust you - remember we are huge compared to them - i think i would be scared too hehe - good luck
she's anxious

clicking is a sound that other rats can pick up

it gets softer as she starts to calm down

well personally i think its because she is frightend or thinks you are some sort of enemy, but when she realizes that you are a friend she calms down.
i no dis sounds sort of obvious but maybe she is tryin 2 tell u summit
maybe she hates your keys ringing.
