Pigloos guinea pig owners only please2007-11-24 22:14:32

i was wondering if its better to get a wooden house for a guinea pig or one of the plasic igloos. here are 2 exaples:

i know the wood one says its for chinchillas but i'm just using it as an example

it would be really helpful if only people who own guinea pigs or have owned guinea pigs in the past answer. thanx

I have had both & I definitely prefer the plastic pigloo. It is much easier to clean. You can just wipe it down with a paper towel soaked in vinegar & its ready to go! You cannot do this with the wooden hidey house.

Several of my pigs like to get inside the pigloo & move it around the cage with their noses. They look like turtles! The plastic pigloo is lightweight enough that they can also play with it, like a toy. A couple of my pigs like to turn it upside down & sit in it. Some like to jump on top of them & play "king of the hill".

In looking at the photo you provided, you linked to a picture of the larger pigloo. I have found that all 12 of my pigs prefer the smaller version that is made for one pig. It makes them feel more "secure". My larger pigloo (like the one in the pic) is outside in the garage. I use it for playtime outdoors.

Either are ok for them. Some guinea pigs may chew on the plastic ones and they most likely will chew on the wooden one, which could act as a chew toy. I had a guinea pig and he had an igloo for his house, he loved the darn thing, but he never really wanted to come out unless it was dinner time or something. I have mice and a hamster that have a smaller version of the wooden houses and they love their houses. I would say which ever has more appeal to you would be a good choice.
