Ok so for Christmas (the most recent one) I got a female short-haired hamster (her name is Cassie). Well I was wondering: is it ok to add another hamster to the same cage such as another female? Like will a strange hamster to Cassie get along with her? Don't worry I won't do anything until I really know whether or not it's safe :)
Answers:I don't really know.you see them in the pet store all the time together.I used to have 7 hampster all at one time and, well, the beginning three we always kept together. Even when the babies were born, we separated everybody, so I honestly don't know whether two strange hampsters will fight. My only suggestion to you is to put them together - but WATCH them carefully and see if they show any signs of aggression towards each other. If they do, SEPARATE them because I believe they will kill each other. You never know unless you try it...good luck with your hampster!
Hamsters are solitary by nature and she might not like you disturbing her peace with an intruder at all unless you have a huge habitrail and they can each have their own room.
it isn't safe because to put to hamsters together they have to be from the same litter or introduced when young. And only dwarf hamsters can be put together nad they still fight!
It sould be ok to add another hamster as long as it's the same sex.I had two in one cage they got along. You wont know intill you try.
try it on your lap and see what happens
Hamster fight club. You can be the Michael Vick of the underground hamster fighting world.
It can be safe if they are the same breed. but it's okay if they get along right... So just test it out at petco or something for a couple of minutes to see what they do. And if they see each other and don't do anything. then it's okay.
It depends on the species of hamster. Some dwarf hamsters can live together but syrian (teddy bear) hamsters definitely can not. Please do not even try it because they can fight to the death.
I would say no. Syrian hamsters (the larger breed) are not very tolerant of playmates, so it might not work out. If you wanted to try it, you could purchase another cage setup and hamster, and put the cages right next to each other, so they can see and smell each other. If after a couple of weeks, they seem to like each other, put Cassie in the new cage. Cassie will be very protective of her cage since she's been in it for so long. Keep oven mitts nearby so you can quickly grab them and separate them if they do start fighting.
