Please HELP WITH RATS PLEASE2007-11-24 22:14:12

we were giving are rats a bath and we found little black bugs my mom thinks there black mites we dont know how to get rid of them. We love them very much and we dont want to see anything happen to them. They are just babies and are very small. Please help us figure out how to get rid of them.

This is probably not fleas, more likely lice or mites. Check out these sites:

They recommend using invermectin for mites and lice, which is most easily obtained at a tack shop in the form of horse wormer. See http://ratguide.com/meds/antiinfectives/... for more information on invermectin. Depending on how young your rats are, and how much they are suffering, you might have to wait until they are a bit older to treat them.

Fleas maybe? I would call your local vet and ask if flea shampoos suitable for kittens would be Ok for rats.
