Please Help My hamsters eye is popping out2007-11-24 22:14:13

i don't know what to do it is midnight and i was just checking on my hamster and her one eye is bulging out her head! what can i do for her! why is this happening? please help.

This happened to my daughter's hamster, Milo.

When he was young, he overstuffed his cheeks with food etc and it put too much pressure on his eye sockets, popping one eyeball out. We took him to the vets and they tried to manipulate the eyeball back into the socket, but no luck. With antibiotics, the eyeball dried up (looked like a raisin) and fell off. Milo lived 3+ yrs as a 1-eyed hamster with no other problems.

In all honesty, you need to call the vet. It could be anything from an injury to cancer. I will keep my fingers crossed that it's nothin.

Did she get bit by another hamster? That usually happens when they get bit around the eye socket by another hamster... If so, please separate them and call the vet ASAP in the morning. If it's just the one hamster she may have just injured it herself. If your parents have enough money, go to the emergency vet tonight. I know it looks gorry, but the hamster will survive. I had one that happened to also.

once my teachers cats eye blew up. she took it to the vet and it turned out to be fine. so you should prolly take it to the vet.

sometimes the veins connected to the eyeball, might be a bit looser than other hamsters, try this :

Using an eye dropper, drop saline water into its eye a little, twice a day. If it still happens, it is best to bring it to the vet to see what he says, and see what he can do to help your hamster
