Please help my guinea pigs are fighting2007-11-24 22:14:36

hi i have two male guinea pigs they are about 11 weeks old i think?

they keep having little fights, they had a bad one the other day both of them looked so scared of the other one?

but they do also get on really well as well, they run round the cage, clean each other and are both always pop corning?

so do you think the fights are ok or should i split them up?

i dont want them to be sad. please help?

Memphis Gal & Ellen S gave you some very good advice.

Your piggies are going through adolescence & are going to have squabbles as they work out who will be the dominant pig. To help ease through this transitional period (it usually ends by age 9 months. Oh great, right?!) make sure that you have adequate cage space. This way they don't get on each others nerves as much if they have a place to go to call their "own". Two boars should have at least 10 square feet of space (5'x2' cage) and two of everything (pigloos, water bottles, feed dishes, etc.).

If they make it through this period without bloodshed, they'll be buddies for life.

split them up for a week or so if they continue to fight seperate them permanently.
Break them up? Are you kidding? You need to sell tickets and take bets.
I'm not sure what you mean by "little fights". If there is bloodshed, rolling balls of fur, teeth baring, or other signs of serious fighting you need to seperate them. If they are just occasionally nippy, rumbling, and mounting, then leave them be. They need to sort out dominance as long as it doesn't get violent.
