Please help my rat got out2007-11-24 22:14:36

i really need help hears what hapnned. i woke up when my sister called me and the rats were in my room and she wanted to see her rat so she went to the cage to see her and she dindnt see her but she sow her other rat and she noticed that the door was open. she had pushed it open i need help PLEASE HELP ME!

Answers:

Set the cage on the floor with the door open. He will eventually come back for his food and water. In the meantime, make sure any hazards are out of the way.

I've had this problem before.

First, look for droppings. . . .follow them they can lead you to the rat.

If there are none, look in cupboards and small spaces. Check any kind of dry goods for holes where the rat could have chewed through the box trying to find food or make a bed for itself.

Make sure all of your toilets are shut, to reduce risk of drowning.

If worse comes to worse, there are traps that do not kill the animal, they wander in, get food and the door shuts on them not letting them out.

Calm down. I've had escapee rodents in my house many times. I am sure you will be able to catch her again when she gets hungry enough!

Try doing a bucket trap. All you need is a large bucket or container (an empty clean garbage can is fine) and a ramp (a length of light wood). Put her favorite treat in the bottom of the bucket. Place the ramp so, the end of it hangs a little over the bucket. When she climbs up the ramp to retrieve the food, her weight should tip the ramp and she will fall unharmed into the bucket.
