S Wild Mouse, Deformed?
I just found a perfectly thriving (healthy not right word) wild mouse, I guess its about 6-7 weeks old, but no way to tell, its stunted, and seems as though it has had no use of its hind legs its whole life (it can pull itself quite fine).
Now, I will not kill it, its not in pain, its a runt and I assume its spine was cramped up and deformed. Its been drinking soy milk and water which I've soaked into a towel, and its flight technique is strong. I fear that if released, it will not escape predators (aka, my two cats and other wildlife). I'm too soft to just "let it go"
So, how should I care for this wild mouse that is in my care (yes, I intend to keep it, but no, it will not be my "pet" i intend to nourish it and provide it with safety until it dies, but I don't intend on handling it in an attempt to make it love me.)
any ideas?
Answers:I wouldn't keep it. bring it to a wildlife refuge so they can nurse it to heath and set free. I just did that with 4 baby bunnies because their mom died.
There's really no need to take it to a wildlife refuge. In their eyes, it's only a mouse, not worth the tax payer's money, and they probably would put it down. There's no reason why you can't give it a good home. I wouldn't handle it, because of it being wild, but just provide it nice soft bedding (carefresh, or any other brand like that always works best), food, and water, and it should adjust fine, as long as it's not stressed out too bad. And it's especially important to keep the bedding clean (Because they will constantly be on it, not having it's back legs to climb with) Give it things to keep it occupied with, and try to set up their cage with things from outside, to make it feel at home.
Its so sweet of your to keep the little mouse. Mice are pretty easy to take care of. Good luck!
