Poor pet mousie
My pet mousie Dottie (aka. Dotto) is two years old. When she one one, I noticed she started losing a big patch of fur in her eye area. Then it turned into a bald red patch. (which made one one side of her face ugly). She lives with Sandy (aka. Sando) her cute companion, I bought them together and they live together just fine. They love each other so much and groom each other. I thought when Sany grooms Dottie, she was taking off Dottie's fur so I separated them.
I did the wrong thing because Sandy and Dottie grew so depressed and so I put them back together. When Dottie scratches her face, she punctures the tender skin on her face and it bleeds! I put peroxide on it to stop it from infection.
A year later, it is still as bad and it is is hard and swollen. It feels like a balloon on her face. What do I do, poor poor mousie Dottie is a horror now and I feel sorry for her!!!
Help me!!!!
Answers:I can tell you love your mice so I hate to say this, but the lump on Dottie's face is probably cancer. It has nothing to do with your putting peroxide on it, though.
Mice are very susceptible to cancer, so much so that they are used in cancer research. The lump probably itches or otherwise bothers Dottie, and that's why she scratches it...it did not develop because of her scratches.
Mice, like hamsters and rats, typically only live two or three years even with the best care. You have given them a good life if they have lived two years.
