Pregnant Chinchilla2007-11-24 22:14:38

I bought a chinchilla from a breeder. The reason she was being sold was because she faught males and wouldn't breed. She is not very active and there is a chance she got pregnant. How can i tell if she is and how long is the gestation period?

Answers:

its pretty hard to tell at first, but she will get rounder, and a bit bigger. Start giving a little bit more food, and see if she eats it. If she keeps eating and eating, she might be pregnate, no garenteees... Also gestation peritod is 111 days, give or take a few days.

Sorry, but your question makes absolutely no sense to me. If she was being sold because she fought males and couldn't bread, then how the heck did she get pregnant is she wasn't breeding?
111 days is the typical pregnancy legnth for chinchillas. if she starts looking more round or like she is getting much heavier, she is probably pregnant. in a few weeks, if that's the case, feel her tummy (gently!) and you'll probably be able to feel the feet or head of a baby through her skin. don't feel around too much if she is pregnant though, or you can harm the babies! if you're really wondering and need a fast and sure anwer, take her to a vet.
