Pregnant Dwarf Hamster question

Pregnant Dwarf Hamster question2007-11-24 22:14:38

Okay, so I have a dwarf hamster and she's already a mommy of 5 babies (they're around 2 months old now so they're able to be away from her) so I'm not too worried about the basics of her pregnancy.

I have separated the females and males into their own cages but since the mommy is now pregnant again, I wanted to know if I should put her in her own cage away from her daughters or would it not matter? I'm just worried that the daughters will get irritated with the new babies or not get along with them. I also noticed my mommy hamster isn't exactly the most defensive or protective mom. Thanks!

Answers:

well its a good idea to separate them. Mother hamsters as I'm sure your aware get VERY deefncive when pregnant. You don't want mommy attacking the others. Also the others may either try and kill the babies or take them as they have no young of their own. No joke lots of species do this.

Good Luck!

the best thing to do is to seperate the mom from any other hamsters. but in the other hand i dont think the females really wouldnt mind. just to keep on the safe side though seperate them.
Yes, seperate them. Question; Are mommy and daddy in the same cage I know he can help during the birth I know that you didn't do it on pupose but why did you keep them in the same cage because it isn't good for to be pregant again so soon.
put her away in her own cage, cuz most likely the other females will eat the babies. you shouldn't let her get pregnant again until another few months, cuz the more they have pregnancies, the sooner they die.
