Pregnant Guinea Pig
Hey...
My sow gave birth about a month ago to one female and one male... I seperated the male at 3 weeks and 1 day... a few days before he was seperated he started making this 'rumbling noise' but I dont think he humped anyone...
Is it possible that the mum or sister could be pregnant?
The sister is only about 7 weeks old... what will happen if she IS pregnant?
Obviously this was not at ALL intentional and I am really hoping they are not preggers...
Thanks!
Answers:yes, they may be pregnant. it will be hard on the 7 week old, as she is still growing herself. she still needs a lot of food, to ensure her own growth, and even more so, if she is having a little one. let her eat all she wants, and make sure she gets plenty of special, somewhat higher-fat, treats. when they get pregnant that young, they mostly only have one baby the first time. good luck
Many beginners don't realize that guinea pigs reach sexual maturity quite early. Males are sexually active as early as 3 weeks, and should be observed closely. Males that exhibit behavior such as mounting should be promptly separated from the mother and any females, as they can breed. And it only takes a few seconds for a sow to become pregnant. Females can stay with the mother as long as needed. Guinea pigs can generally be separated from their mother at four to five weeks.
Despite what the web sites may say... it is very possible it may be pregnant! It happened to mine pig and she had 3 babies and I gave them to the pet store which was horribe because it is concidered a "dump", however my piggies got together a little while ago so a I am keeping my fingers crossed that there will be no more pig babies!!
