Putting Male Pigs Together
I have a male and a female guniea pig. The female pig got prego before we could get him fixed. We took him out after she gave birth to the babies. She had 5 healthy little piggers, which is kinda odd. They normaly only have up to 3. He has been alone since they were born. There 3 weeks and two days old. When i try to hold him and her together all he wants to do is make more babies. And even when i try to hold one of the bigger male pigs and him,he tries to as well make babies with him.LoL. Are the babies ok to go in there with him? Wanting to mate with them and all? I'm scared of them wanting to fight.Any suggestions.
Answers:Catie is right. Boys with dad, girls with Mom. He is not trying to mate with the boys, he's asserting dominance. It's going to happen, there's no stopping it. I hope you have C&C cages, especially since you have so many pigs now. The boys will definately need extra space. www.guineapigcages.com
Catie is also right about not letting males and females play together at all. It literally take seconds for a male to impregnate a female. It will happen before you could stop it.
For introducing the males, read over the techniques at http://www.cavyspirit.com/sociallife.htm...
Addition: If "Horse Colt" is a vet, she is not a very good one. At least, when it comes to guinea pigs. It is a myth that male guinea pigs automatically fight. Please do not use your title to give out bad information.
you can put the boys with him and leave the girls with mom. dont let the girls be with dad after they are 4 weeks old they will get pregnant and probably die cuz there so young. dont put him back with mom till he's nutered even if ur watching its to risky.
Its all about dominance, if he proves dominance over the little ones they should be fine, but as they get bigger, they will want to challenge him, then they will fight until one gives up, so eventually your gonna want to separate them.
Whoaa dude ! That is one friggin rat dat you gots ! He must bees king humper ! Gets a cat an puts in der wid him. See if he humps da damn cat ! Whoaaaa
OK i am a vet and do not up them together that is just very bad what you should do is when the babies are a little older you put all of them in a different cage then you do not let the boy guinea pig in with any of the other guinea pigs
