Question about rats ONLY ANSWER IF U KNOW 4 SURE plz
Ok so I was thinking that when my rats get old enough that I wanna get a male rat and breed one of them(or maybe both). But I dont want to split the sisters up. Can I do that? Could I breed one of them and leave the sister in with her during her pregnancy and birthing. Would she help her sister out? I'm not sure. Plz help. And plz dont answer unless you know. Thanks
Answers:heres an idea, why not email spazrats so that you get an accurate answer!!
the other link that i'm sending you has all the rat info that you may need, and if not i know there's a phone number where you can contact that person. i have had to call her myself and she is very helpful.
also you can join yahoo groups and talk to EXPERIENCED owners and they can tell you the pros and cons. i know that if you breed a rat "too old" that it very may be the end of them due to complications...
i know this isn't the answer that you asked for, but i gave it anyhow cause i know that you wouldn't want anything to happen to your little darlings.
Yes, the girls can stay together. I have had as many as 100 breeder rats and the girls always help tend each others babies.

Yes, but make sure you separate any boy babies or else Auntie rat will become mommy rat herself before long.
It counts if the two were raised in the same tank/cage for thier lives, and if they were, then it should be fine, but knowing rats, then the male will probably breed with both, leaving them to their own business. If they weren't, then seperate them. The one will attempt to kill the other one's babies, and I'll guess that you don't want that. If they have to be seperated, then just get a small cage/tank for the other one to be seperated in until the babies have reached their independant stage (about 3-4 weeks?).
I think pet rats are adorable. However, you shouldn't breed them. Go take a look on petfinder.com for rats. You will see tons and tons of them. Breeding them adds more to already overpopulated world. If you want to help animals, look into rescueing rats. You could start now by fostering some homeless rats to get experience. If you love rats, you don't want so many homeless rats to be put to sleep, do you?
It actually would not matter if her sister was there while she was breeding so go ahead and put a male rat in.
no because the sister will eat the newborns cause of the female instinct and plus rat and other rodents would pretty much rather be alone at any circumstances.
I am sorry, but I don't understand your question.
Try e-mailing spazrats and Mrs.Phas. they know what they are talking about when it comes to rats.!!
Edit: Oh, I forgot, rattiegurllove is good too, and if you decide to breed a rat that is more than 8 months old, she could die. By that time her hip bones are fused, and she could die giving birth!!
