Question for hamster lovers
Question for hamster lovers2007-11-24 22:14:20
7 of my 10 hamsters(2 parents & 5 3-week-old children) dropped dead last night. i don't know what happened, as they were ok in the evening. it may have been the heat(40 celsius) or something else but it couldn't be a cat or something because they were scratchless.
my question is...
why did they die?
Answers:It might have been the heat because hamsters are inside a cage so double the temperature since the cage is cloged. Also they have babies and 2 parents their body heat contributes to that also. Make sure you never put your hamsters cage in direct sunlight. It is not your fault, sometimes accidents happen.
i think you touch them so much
who knows
Well it might have been the heat because i don't think they can stay in it for that long! And it might have been the bedding that might have been it to if you used cedar or pine shavings or anyy type of wood bedding then that is probably how Carefresh is the best so if you aren't using Carefresh i would change the bedding for your surving hamsters! Then i would go to the vet and see whats wrong also try and have the room air condtioned the highest temp they can be in is 80 degrees and 70 being the lowest but i would go the vet and see what you can do!
It was definitely the heat. Hamsters tend to get heat strokes after 33 degrees Celsius, so try and keep the remaining hamsters in an air conditioned environment, maintaining the temperature at around 25 degrees.
