Questions about pet rats -2007-11-24 22:14:21

1.) Is there a breed without long tails?

2.) What is the smallest breed?

3.) Do even the pet rats carry diseases?

And by the way, can someone type something about rats like how they are misunderstood, because I will be showing my dad one of those because they think they are all pests and they arent pets, they are mean creatures.

Thank you all.

Answers:

There is a breed of tailless rats but they tend to be more sickly than the rest. If you plan on getting a rat I whole heartedly recommend going with one with a tail. It's part of who they are, and you get used to it. After a while it starts to grow on you and look cute! =D

There isn't really anything I would call a smallest breed. They're all basically the same size though females tend to be smaller than males.

Rats can carry diseases but none that a human can catch. This just means that if you already have a pet rat at home and you buy a new rat that's carrying a disease, chances are the pet rat will also get it.

Rats are totally misunderstood! It took me one year to get my parents to let me get them, after showing them just how friendly they were. They are NOT at all pests! They're so quiet and super-friendly! When you come up to their cage they'll be waiting for you, waiting to jump out and wanting you to take them out. Biting rats are rare cases. I've met a lot of rats, and only one of them bit people. He just so happened to be MY rat. xD But even so, he only did it when he felt threatened, and it was more like a nibble, not a bite. It wasn't nearly enough to make you bleed, just to give you a scare. Rats have personalities, just like dogs do. It's very hard to understand until you actually have rats.
