Questions on gerbils
should i get 2 gerbils?
they would live in a hamster cage that looks like this (http://www.petcentreonline.co.uk/ecommer...
and would be taken out every day to play.
i will get two girls.
are gerbils nocturnal like hamsters?
also, what breed would be best? I want the most popular breed which will be easy to come by. It should be able to fit in that hamster cage and will need to get along with another littermate,

Answers:ok i have 2 gerbils myself and from my experience and from reading up loads on gerbils you should not put your gerbils in a hamster like cage.
reasons:
1) most hamster type cages are made of plastic and gerbils can quite easily bite there way through these and escape!!
2) plastic can be harmful to them.
3) gerbils are NATURAL diggers and would be much happier in a gerbilarium which consists of a tank simuliar to a reptile or fish tank which will either be plastic or glass.. a plastic tank is fine to put gerbils in as there is nothing they can latch onto and bite although a plastic tank can easily be scratched. you could make your own gerbilarium by buying a plastic or glass tank and putting some wire mesh over it. But i suggest just buying a ready made one.. (you can also get a tank and a wire top separate which they sell in pet shops but make sure you measure them to fit before hand!
If you are in the U.K i'd suggest a great gerbilarium from pets at home.
