RATS TO FAT Need to diet quick2007-11-24 22:14:49

My pet rats are really fat, they are bascially being fed food let alone rat food, they have half a sausage each that are specially designed for dogs, a small bonio milky biscuit each and a handful of rat food.

They are so fat they need help, does anyone have any suggestions on what to give them for a few weeks, i could even take them outside for some exercise but the weather hs just been atrocious.

Give your rats a very small amount of rat food (the kind you get at a pet store) and stop feeding them human (and dog) food. Also, only feed them once a day. One small handful should do it! (emphasis on SMALL HANDFUL and ONCE A DAY) You should also make them work for their food. A LOT!

i have no idea on how to put a rat on a diet

if you don't feed them they might go and find food from your cupboards i had rats once and they always got out at night

First, do not give them non-rat food in such quantities!! Keep them on a diet of seeds and kernels that is of high variety (both protein and fruit) and only feed them when needed. Second, it's okay to give "treats" but I would go for fruits (like strawberries) and small pieces of cheese or meat. Think of treat like we think of dessert, something special and not all the time!!
