RATS is there a safe paint for cages2007-11-24 22:14:49

is there such thing as a paint that would be safe to use on my rats cage? i've noticed that some of the paint is showing wear from washings and theres rust on some of the levels (i have covered the bars so the rats cant get at it)

i don't want any guesses at this question as i take my little ones health seriously.

Answers:

No guessing here, my rats' health is important to me to. This is a subject of discussion on the rat forums, and everyone agrees there are not many paints they would feel comfortable using.

In the last week I have been cleaning up 4 of my rat cages and the spray paint that I am using is Wal-Mart's ColourPlace Rust Paint in Flat White.

Says on the lable, "resists marring and chipping....lead-free and non-toxic when dry making it perfect for children's toys."

I understand you completely. Don't paint your wood. Go to Google and type in: dapper rat. Click the first article. It has AMAZING tips on cage building and rat care. Also really funny stories about the author's rats.

Best of luck with your fuzzies! :o)

Both japlac [for wood] or plasticote [for metal] are rat safe

obviously remove rats from cage and let it dry thoroughly before putting rats back[ doh! lol]
