I give my rabbit lots of time to run around each day, but while she's in her cage, she looks bored. Are there any toys I can give her to keep her occupied? How can I make them, or where can I buy them?

Answers:

My rabbits love toys! I make some of my own, but sometimes I buy stuff from stores and occasionally online. What I've found is that most of the rabbit toys in pet stores are really boring. The fruit twig chew sticks are yummy but they're best if they are on hanging toys- I make my own with untreated sisal string, a bell, and a bunch of different chew toys. Some parrot toys are fun, and so are plastic cat toys with bells in them and plastic baby keys.

I also buy stuff from non-pet stores. I get untreated grapevine wreaths and wicker baskets at hobby stores, untreated wicker balls and grass mats at Pier 1 and dollar stores.

Here's a great list of fun, inexpensive toys:

And here are some great places to buy rabbit toys that they will actually like:

I like to look at the Bunny Bytes site and use their ideas to make my own toys.

Pine cones are what I used. They love to chew on them and push them around. I was told it helps their teeth from growing too long.

the best site ever trust me!

I have 35 rabbits, and I don't buy them toys. Everything they play with can be found around your house. Here are some favorites:

--pinecones (clean ones)

--old soda cans (they toss them around and chew on them, throw them out when the edges get sharp)

--toilet paper rolls and paper towel rolls stuffed with grass hay

--tennis balls or golf balls

--old t-shirts
