Rabbit and Guinea pig
About 6 months ago i bought a guinea pig, and as i saw he was getting a bit lonely during the day while I was at work I got him an angorra x lop rabbit, in the book i read about guinea pigs it stated that they get along well together, especially when they are young, and they were when I bought them. (they are both males, un-neutered)
I usually let the rabbit roam around in the back yard and take him in when it starts to get dark, in the last couple of months ive noticed that he sometimes gets really restless when i close him in his cage, as he starts running around in circles and stomping really loudly. He also chases after the guinea pig and does something strange to his back, and the guinea pig starts squealing. I cant quite see what he is doing but recently I found a big scratch type thing on the guinea pig's back, so I assume he is biting him. I had some strange idea that he was trying to mount him, as it kinda looks like it when he goes on top of him.
Anyone have an idea on this?
Answers:I would really only let them together during play time...
rabbits can unintentionally harm little guinea pigs
if you want the guinea pig to have a companion go to your local shelter or rescue and find him a nice companion (another male unless you want to get yours fixed)
plus they have totally different nutritional needs, guinea pigs need extra vitamin c in their diet so their pellets are much different than the timothy hay rabbit pellets (but both species need unlimited timothy hay) NEVER feed your rabbit the pellets with all the seeds and dried fruit look for plain timothy pellets I use oxbow pellets myself
