Rabbit not doing well
at the shelter where i volunteer there is a rabbit about five years old who constanly shakes and his eyes are quite dulll and he's not lively and just doesn't look good. What can i do to make him better and feel better?
Answers:TAKE THE RABBIT TO A VET IMMEDIATELY!!!!!!!...
Since you work at a shelter you probably have access to a vet I would take him there.
What does your vet there, say is wrong?
I,m sorry for the old rabbit, I guess, all you can do
is to make his days better, and help him to be comfortable.
Has he been seen by a vet? Rabbits don't handle illnesses very well and can die in as little as a few hours if the illness is something serious. Since he's in a shelter, chances are he was neglected and/or abused before he came there. He is probably scared and hungry. Once he has been checked by a vet, if he has no illness, then plenty of nutritious food, clean water, love and attention should help him perk up and start to look and feel better.
5 years is not old for a rabbit. He needs to see a vet ASAP. Hopefully the shelter's vet, or the private vets that take care of the shelter animals, are rabbit savvy.
Unfortunately I can't say what might be wrong with him. Your description is of general pain/severe stress symptoms which could be linked to any health problem. It would probably be best for this rabbit to be put in a foster home until he is better so he is in a less stressful environment with more individual attention. Are there any rabbit rescues in your area that might be able to take him in?
well pay a lot of attention to him and make sure he doesn't do much physical activity. does he slide around when he walks like he can't support himself? if that's the case i'm sorry to say but it might just be nearing its end... that's what happened to my rabbit last year.
He really does need to see a vet. 5 years old is not even middle age for a rabbit so he should be lively and chipper. If he's shaking he's probably sick and may die if he doesn't get meds soon. Sorry there really is nothing you can do except get him to a vet. Good luck.
the best thing you can do is keep it in a stress free zone. the shelter might have a lot of barking dogs that scare it sick..
