Rabbits that are suppose to be female are having sex help2007-11-24 22:14:43

in march i got two rabbits because i read that rabbits like company i chose to have females because i also read that males might not get along together and i want to keep them together. WELL TODAY i had them out on the garden for a run around and to let my daughter pet them when i noticed pips was following shadow every move then all of a sudden pips had mounted shadow and were going at like rabbits (for give the catchfaze) now the lady i got the rabbits from had taken them at 6 weeks old to the vets and had all her rabbits sexed and out of 9 she had 2 boys which she placed in to a different cage from the girls as two of the rabbits were identical and the vet said that one was male and the other female my sister as the one the vet said was male and i have the one she said was female(pips) anyway my question is as pips had a sex change or is it possiable the vet got the sex wrong or is this normal and pips is gay or should i be peparing myself for the patter of loads of tiny feet.

I've bred and shown rabbits for many years. Rabbits, like many other animals, will mount each other in a sign of dominance. This has nothing to do with sex of the animal. It is possible that the vet sexed the animals wrong, they are very hard to tell apart when they are young.
