I am a student at college in a state other than the one I live in, and twice a year I commute north home. All I have to do is put my rodents in airline-approved carry-cages. Mine is exactly the same as a cat cage, except that I reinforced it with wire mesh, to make it more rat-proof.(both male rats in a carry-cage together).

I prefer not to have them in on extended flights though, because I get all concerned (as mothers do). They tend to be very post-flight flighty for about a week, one of my boys gets very travel sick, and spends the next week in a most lethargic (or...even more lethargic than usual) state, which isn't exatcly prime for showing.

You might be better off driving to a show location.
